Yesterday marked a big day. A significant start to a new beginning. A day I thought would never come. Yesterday...was the first day of ORIENTATION at Gordon-Conwell for my dearest husband.
While it may not seem like a big deal, it symbolizes a BIG step for us! As many of you may not know, Jimmy and I have been praying about seminary for years (I mean, since 2009 people!). By God's grace, Jimmy is now in the position to begin this next leg of the journey as a seminary student.
It's been pretty incredible to see the Lord's hand at work. In his gracious timing, Jimmy is going into seminary with razor-sharp focus. He has a good grasp on what he wants to study, what classes he'd like to take and where he'd like to study for his doctorate. Listening to other seminary students talk about the state of confusion of where to go next, I'm so encouraged to be married to a man that has a definite plan in mind. Being a husband, he's not here to dabble in this and that, but rather, work hard and efficiently for the Lord and his family (just me for now) to reach his goal of attaining his PhD.
Now, that isn't to say God can't change or shift our goals and aspirations, but I believe that the Lord has given Jimmy a passion for particular subjects and centuries in church history. Ultimately, wherever the Lord leads us we will follow, but it's pretty neat to see His plan unfold through Jimmy's style of learning and focused interest.
WARNING: Men, this is when you may begin to become disinterested in this post....(don't say I didn't warn you!)
While Jimmy attends orientation, I have had time to decorate our home and put the finishing touches in each room. Beverly Bootstraps and Savers (two fantastic thrift stores in the area) have been a gold mine! Here are some of my thrifty purchases and "upgrades" to our new place!
The cozy living room. Many cups of tea and coffee will be had by that window during cold winter days. I can hardly wait!
I found a set of two leather chairs for $20. Don't they look like they belong?
The top picture is my favorite corner of our living room, and the bottom picture is Jimmy's study.
Our favorite engagement pictures hung over our temporary couch. Long story short, we are using the futon in place of our normal leather couch because it did not fit in the doorway to our home :( . We've already shed a few tears...
My piano corner! This was a must.
Found this wingback chair at Savers for $15! Fantastic find!
You can't be a New Englander without a proper yellow raincoat and windbreaker. Found this gem for $3 today. <High-fiving myself>
The moral of the story? Now that we're in a new season, I'm having to be much thriftier than I once was. The task of finding a steal by digging through bins, racks and piles of clothes and furniture is a fun one! It's a satisfying feeling.
Thank you for your continued thoughts and prayers. This is our last week of summer, and we're making the most of it!
Love and peace to you all.
Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God.
How unsearchable his judgments,
and his paths beyond tracing out!
- Romans 11:33 -
In Him,
The Millers
